The ceasefire in Gaza is being celebrated as a turning point, but Israel’s genocidal onslaught confines. Within hours of its implementation, Israeli forces resumed the killing of civilians, imposed new restrictions on humanitarian aid, and issued public threats to restart full-scale warfare. Rather than halting violence, the ceasefire has allowed Israel to rebrand its military campaign while preserving the capacity to continue targeted killings and territorial control with minimal international scrutiny.
Civilians have been shot for crossing invisible “yellow lines,” journalists such as Saleh Aljafarawi have been assassinated, and at least 23 Palestinians have been killed despite the agreement’s explicit prohibition on military attacks. At the same time, Israel has cut aid deliveries in half, delayed the opening of vital crossings, and maintained military positions across 58 percent of Gaza. In the West Bank, the Israeli government has accelerated annexation plans and settlement expansion.
